nwdentalprogramOral Health Programs

The Northwoods Dental Project provides the following programs:

Seal-A-Smile (PDF)
A school-based Dental Sealant program offered free to parents of second and sixth grade students. A portable dental clinic is set up at the school so children can receive an oral health exam, dental sealants (if necessary), dental supplies, and oral health education. Parents receive a letter providing information about the oral health exam, observations made and follow-up suggestions.

The Northwoods Dental Project uses a dental sealant material from 3m ESPE company called Clinpro that does not contains Bisphenol A (BPA).

Healthy Smiles (Fluoride Varnish) (PDF)
A free, school-based Fluoride Varnish program offered to children ages six months through five years of age who are enrolled in or are eligible for Head Start and Pre-K classes. Children receive an oral health exam, fluoride varnish application, dental supplies and parent letter containing results and recommendations from the exam.

Fluoride Rinse
Available to students in first and fifth grades at school districts that are on non-fluoridated water systems. Check with your local public health department to see if this service is offered at your school.

Fluoride Supplements
Parents of children six months to 16 years old with non-fluoridated water systems can receive fluoride supplements through the Public Health Department.

Food Pantry and Prenatal Care
This includes Healthy Mothers, Senior Smiles, and programs at six local food pantries. Participants are offered an oral health exam, oral health education and dental supplies.

Please call your local health department for more information on these services.
