Program Information
Vilas County Public Health Department offers a number of programs to assist mothers and children.
WIC
The Women, Infant and Children's Nutrition Program (WIC) is a supplemental food and nutrition program for prenatal and postpartum women, infants, and children under five years of age. Nutrition education, consultations with dietitians, breastfeeding support, and food vouchers are available to qualified families.
PNCC
Prenatal Care Coordination (PNCC) is a Medicaid benefit that helps pregnant women get the support and services they need to assist in the delivery of a healthy baby. Once enrolled in the PNCC program, participants can schedule monthly visits and phone calls with a Registered Nurse to discuss questions and concerns related to the pregnancy and parenting. The nurse in the PNCC program can provide assistance through the 9-month pregnancy and up to three months after the baby is delivered.
Immunizations
We are aware of the importance of immunizations for children, but there are immunizations for adults as well. The Public Health Department offers a number of other important vaccines as well as annual influenza vaccines.
Lead Screenings
The Vilas County Lead Program promotes and provides blood lead screening of children six months to six years of age . Through the program, primary sources of lead exposure in the environment are identified and education on reducing lead exposure is provided.
